Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has raised alarm bells, alleging that the Democratic Party’s alleged ultimate objective is to see former President Donald Trump behind bars.
According to a report by Fox News on Thursday, January 11, 2024, Gingrich, in a passionate address at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, alleged that Democratic leaders are relentless in their pursuit to keep Trump out of the 2024 presidential race, capitalizing on President Joe Biden’s dwindling approval ratings.
“Their goal is to put him in jail. Literally. I mean, if they can get to the right place, they will have him in chains,” Gingrich declared to an audience in Simi Valley, California, on Wednesday.
“And their hope is that if the American people see this guy in chains, they won’t vote for him.”
Gingrich also speculated that the Democrats’ aggressive attempts to sideline Trump could backfire. Warning against the dangers of overkill, he remarked, “Now, what’s happening, of course, is because they’ve gone to overkill — I mean, you get to do one of these. But, you do three or four or five of them — people get the joke.”
The former house speaker contended that the repeated failures to incriminate Trump might inadvertently strengthen his standing as the election approaches.
Gingrich predicted an “explosion of outrage” across the nation if Trump’s political opponents succeed in their latest bids to imprison the former president.
“What they’re likely to have, I think, is an explosion of outrage across the whole country on a scale we have not seen in our lifetime, because people are going to just say, ‘This whole thing is rigged’” Gingrich expressed, highlighting the potential consequences of such a scenario.
Acknowledging the danger posed by the governmental power at Democrats’ disposal, Gingrich emphasized the need for caution in wielding legal authority against political opponents.
Despite facing a staggering 91 criminal charges across five indictments, Trump remains the preferred candidate among Republican primary voters for the 2024 nomination.
The onslaught of charges stems from four criminal indictments filed against Trump in 2023 by both state and federal authorities.
The legal challenges, however, have not diminished Trump’s popularity within the Republican base.
He also continues to accuse President Joe Biden of politically persecuting him, framing the legal battles as a consequence of his success in the polls.
Trump’s narrative suggests a broader conspiracy, alleging that Democrats are leveraging the legal system to undermine his political standing.
