While the Grand Reopening of the Notre Dame of Paris Cathedral was a religious and cultural moment that broadcast through the world the hope for the western culture revival, it was also one of the greatest geopolitical events of the planet in 2024.
And in the epicenter of this historic day was President-Elect Donald Trump, back to the world stage.
Besides his trilateral meeting with France’s Emmanuel Macron and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump also held a separate meeting with the heir to the British throne, William, the Prince of Wales.
The meeting was held after the ceremonial reopening of the cathedral, and it kicked off with the President-Elect, notably a fan of British Monarchy, calling the Prince a ‘great man’.

New York Post reported:
“The two shook hands and spoke briefly at the ceremony, and met after the event for about 40 minutes at the residence of the British ambassador in Paris, where the 42-year-old Prince of Wales, still sporting a beard he grew during summer vacation, met Trump at the door, and said ‘Great to see you’.
As both men stood in the foyer and posed for photos, Trump praised the British throne’s heir apparent, saying, ‘Great man this one. He’s going to do a fantastic job’.”

As both men stood in the foyer and posed for photos, Trump praised the British throne’s heir apparent, saying, ‘Great man this one. He’s going to do a fantastic job’.”
A ‘warm, friendly meeting’, according to Kensington Palace:
“The pair discussed a range of global issues but focused on the importance of the UK/US special relationship. President Trump also shared some warm and fond memories with The Prince about the Late Queen for which [His Royal Highness] was extremely grateful.”
Prince William also had a similar meeting with First Lady Jill Biden, who went to the Paris ceremony representing lame-duck President Biden.

The two men shook hands and had a brief conversation at the ceremony at the cathedral, and when they met afterward the meeting lasted about 40 minutes at the residence of the British ambassador in Paris.
(That is longer than the meeting with Macron and Zelensky.)
“Trump and the prince last met in 2019 during the then-president’s trip to the UK, where he gushed about his meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II.”
