According to Mediaite, in a social media rant, former President Donald Trump criticized former Congresswoman Liz Cheney over details in her new book, “Oath and Honor.” Trump specifically refuted Cheney’s claim that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy visited Mar-a-Lago because Trump was “depressed and not eating.” Trump admitted to being angry instead of depressed and humorously added that his issue was eating too much rather than not eating.
Trump accused Cheney of losing her congressional seat by the largest margin for a sitting Congressperson in U.S. history and claimed that she worked with the January 6th Committee to delete and destroy evidence. However, there is no evidence to support the notion that the committee has destroyed evidence in its investigation into the Capitol riot. Trump and his allies have consistently attempted to downplay the events of January 6th to protect him from blame.
[CHENEY] WRITES IN HER BORING NEW BOOK THAT KEVEN [SIC] MCCARTHY SAID HE CAME TO MAR-A-LAGO AFTER THE RIGGED ELECTION BECAUSE, ‘THE FORMER PRESIDENT WAS DEPRESSED AND NOT EATING,’” TRUMP FUMED. “THAT STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE. I WAS NOT DEPRESSED, I WAS ANGRY, AND IT WAS NOT THAT I WAS NOT EATING, IT WAS THAT I WAS EATING TOO MUCH. BUT THAT’S NOT WHY KEVEN MCCARTHY WAS THERE. HE WAS AT MAR-A-LAGO TO GET MY SUPPORT, AND TO BRING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TOGETHER — ONLY GOOD INTENTIONS.”
Cheney’s book has garnered attention for its criticism of Trump’s allies and its release coincided with Trump’s social media posts attacking her. The former president’s posts on Truth Social reveal an ongoing rift within the Republican Party, with Trump expressing disdain for Cheney and emphasizing his grievances against her.
