Rep. Jim Jordan, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, denies former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney’s claim of a heated clash during the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
Cheney, ousted for criticizing Trump’s role in the insurrection, alleges in her upcoming book that Jordan approached her during the riot, offering assistance. She claims to have rejected his offer and blamed him for the attack, as detailed in her book ‘Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning’, scheduled for publication next week and featuring previously unseen footage of the riot.
A spokesman for Jordan denied the alleged incident, stating, “Congressman Jordan never saw Rep. Cheney on January 6th and never spoke with her. This is another lie from Liz Cheney.
Jordan, a prominent figure in the House Freedom Caucus and vocal supporter of Trump, spoke with Trump the morning of the attack, discussing plans to object to the 2020 election results, as per White House records obtained by the Democratic-led House committee investigating the attack. Jordan, among the 147 Republicans, voted to overturn the election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania, even after the riot.
Jordan has staunchly defended Trump against impeachment charges related to the insurrection, accusing Democrats of attempting to “cancel” him. Following Jordan’s denial of Cheney’s claim, social media reactions on X (formerly Twitter) varied.
Some users supported Cheney, praising her for exposing the truth and standing up to Trump and his allies. One user commended, “Liz Cheney is a hero. She is telling the truth about what happened on January 6th and who is responsible. She is not afraid of Trump or Jordan or anyone else.” Another user emphasized, “Liz Cheney’s book is a must-read. Conversely, some users sided with Jordan, criticizing Cheney as a liar and traitor. A user asserted, “Jim Jordan is telling the truth. He never saw or spoke with Liz Cheney on January 6th. She is lying to save her political career and to bash Trump. She is a RINO (Republican in name only) and a warmonger.” Another user defended Jordan, stating, “Jim Jordan’s denial is credible.
