A torrent of vicious mockery and insults has been unleashed online against First Lady Jill Biden by supporters of former President Donald Trump, sparked by her New Year’s Eve outfit.
Newsweek reported on Tuesday, January 2, 2023, that during an appearance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, Dr. Biden wore a glittering black dress with sheer accents
But instead of sending positive wishes to viewers, Trump loyalists immediately shredded her ensemble with petty attacks.
One critic disparaged it as “drapes,” while another said she “lost a fight with my great grandma’s tablecloth.”
The most common theme was accusing Dr. Biden of having no fashion sense. “She is certainly not a Dr of Fashion,” scoffed one commenter.
Others claimed she had picked the “worst possible outfit”, lacked “class”, and had “embarrassed America” with her style.
Rabid pro-Trump accounts also took gleeful potshots about her age, with remarks like “OK Grandma, time for bed” and “Someone needs to dress this woman her age.”
Naturally, the First Lady’s outfit was held in stark contrast to Melania Trump’s impeccable fashion sense. “Jill Biden is no Melania Trump. Not even close!” tweeted Roger Stone.
Comparisons were made between Jill’s “gift wrap” dress and Melania’s “perfect” ensembles. The consensus was that “frumpy” Jill could not measure up to the “glamorous” former model.
Not content with attacking just her clothes, some also targeted Dr. Biden’s qualifications and intellect. One comment dismissed her as “a fake doctor”, while others suggested she was “out of her depth” as First Lady.
A Fox News host even attempted to pit Jill and Melania against each other, calling the latter the “perfect example” of a First Lady while deriding Jill’s White House decor.
The avalanche of nasty jabs sparked outrage from those defending the First Lady. They blasted the Trump fans for “behaving like mean girls” and spending their time “mocking a dress” instead of focusing on real issues.
Supporters praised Dr. Biden as “an outstanding First Lady” with “class” who “cares deeply about others.” Some expressed pity that people felt the need to attack a dress choice so viciously.
But the pro-Trump mob was unrelenting, continuing their mission to trash Jill Biden’s outfit in the most juvenile, sexist terms possible. They seemed to take sadistic glee in the chance to gang up on the First Lady.
Unfortunately, the New Year has kicked off with the Biden White House being inundated by petty insults and false comparisons to the Trump era.
Jill Biden remains above the fray, but the rabid followers of the former President show no signs of easing their bitter attacks over even the most innocuous matters.
