Christmas stockings for the grandchildren of President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden were not posted at the White House this year after the first couple publicly acknowledged earlier this year the out-of-wedlock child son Hunter Biden fathered with a former stripper.
“In a stark departure from the previous two Yuletides, first lady Jill Biden did away with hanging stockings for her grandchildren and pets over the mantle in the State Dining Room,” the New York Post reported on Monday.
“The change comes months after President Biden and his wife issued a statement publicly acknowledging first son Hunter Biden’s out-of-wedlock daughter, Navy Joan Roberts, as their seventh grandchild,” The Post added.
Navy, who is now five years old, was not included in the Biden family grandchildren stocking array in 2021 and 2022, “unlike Hunter’s three daughters he shares with ex-wife Kathleen Buhle and his son with current wife Melissa Cohen,” The Post noted further.
A White House spokesperson claimed that the first couple planned to spend Christmas at the Camp David presidential retreat, and will instead hang the stockings there.
The Post added:
On Monday, the first lady unveiled the White House’s extravagant decorations, featuring 98 Christmas trees, roughly 34,000 ornaments, and 142,000 twinkling lights around the executive mansion.
The official White House Menorah rests in the Cross Hall, which is nestled between the East Room and State Dining Room.
Earlier this month, in an op-ed, the Navy’s mother came to the first son’s defense as it appears their once-bitter child support case has been resolved.
Writing in the UK’s Daily Mail, Lunden Alexis Roberts, the mother of Hunter’s daughter Navy Joan Roberts, not only defended the girl’s father but asked the public to give him some privacy while he gets to know her.
“Yes, he’s led a privileged life, but Hunter has also lived in the public eye with political opponents who seize upon his mistakes and use his addiction against him,” Roberts wrote.
“Honestly, I’ve had a taste of that myself but the hurtful things that have been written about me are nothing in comparison to how Hunter has been portrayed.”
“One day soon Navy Joan is going to be old enough to search the internet seeing the countless newspaper articles dedicated to her father’s transgressions and I cannot fathom how she may feel,” Roberts added.
“I’ve seen what addiction can do to people and I think it’s cruel that Hunter has had to go through recovery with a target on his back.”
The Daily Caller noted further:
Lunden Roberts and Hunter Biden resolved their child support dispute in late June and the Biden family finally acknowledged Navy Joan the following month. The new child support agreement resulted in Hunter Biden’s payments being reduced from $20,000 per month to a redacted amount.
Hunter Biden gave his daughter some of his art works and he paid Lunden Roberts’ legal fees. Roberts unsuccessfully sought to give her daughter the Biden last name as part of the child support dispute.
“Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward. This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter. Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy,” Joe and Jill Biden said in a statement in July.
“Naturally, she adores her dad and loves his colorful artwork. More importantly she adores building the bond that they are creating,” Roberts wrote.
“I ask that people respect their privacy so that this treasured bond can continue to flourish,” she noted further.
