Since leaving the White House in 2021 with her husband, Donald Trump, Melania Trump has pursued her own interests. Ensconced behind the gates of Mar-a-Lago and avoiding the customary pursuits of a former first lady, she has mainly avoided the spotlight. Following her attendance at Rosalynn Carter’s funeral a week ago, Melania is making another unusual appearance, this time with a significant opponent of her husband.
The former first lady, who is also a naturalized citizen, will be speaking at an immigration naturalization ceremony on December 15. It is an appropriate engagement. However, the National Archives and Records Administration is putting on the event, according to CNN.
The National Archives first became involved in Donald Trump’s legal drama in March 2021 when they repeatedly demanded that he return the legal documents he had taken from the White House.
His attorneys and he returned some but not all of the presidential records he was ordered to turn up, which sparked an FBI raid, a Justice Department inquiry, and forty felony charges. It was discovered that the former president had highly sensitive documents stashed throughout Mar-a-Lago, including in his restroom and in a storage closet that was accessible to both workers and visitors by the pool.
Normally, Melania would have been a suitable candidate to address the 25 individuals taking the oath of citizenship, but considering her husband’s current legal issues, she declined.
“As a naturalized citizen herself, Mrs. Trump looks forward to telling her story and being part of this momentous occasion for these new American citizens,” the statement reads. Melania has proven time and again that she’s going to march to the beat of her own drum, and it looks like Donald Trump’s legal issues play no part in her consideration.
