According to a report by Daily Caller on Friday, December 8, 2023, the White House has confirmed that President Joe Biden will not pardon his son Hunter Biden, who is facing nine new tax charges in California.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on Air Force One on Friday that the president’s stance on the matter has not changed, and that he is proud of his son for rebuilding his life.
“The president has said this before, and he will continue to say, which is that he loves his son and supports him as he continues to rebuild his life.” Jean-Pierre said.
“I’m going to be really careful and not comment on this and refer you to Department of Justice or my colleagues at the White House counsel,”
“I’m not gonna go beyond telling you all what the president has said over and over again. He’s proud of his son,” she added.
The new charges against Hunter Biden stem from an investigation by a grand jury in Los Angeles, which indicted him on Thursday for allegedly failing to report more than $1.2 million in income from various sources, including a Ukrainian energy company, a Chinese investment firm, and a Hollywood production company.
The indictment also accuses him of using a shell company to conceal his income and evade taxes, and of claiming false deductions for personal expenses.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Christopher Clark, issued a statement on Thursday, saying that his client “intends to fight these charges vigorously.”
“Hunter Biden is innocent of the charges brought against him by the politically motivated U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles.” Clark said.
“These charges are the product of a two-year smear campaign orchestrated by Donald Trump and his allies, who have exploited Hunter’s personal struggles for their own gain,”.
“Hunter has always been transparent about his finances and cooperated fully with the IRS and other authorities. He has paid every penny of taxes that he owed, and he intends to fight these charges vigorously,” he added.
President Biden has repeatedly defended his son from the attacks by his political opponents, who have accused him of using his family name and influence to enrich himself through foreign business deals.
The president has also denied any involvement or knowledge of his son’s affairs, and has said that he trusts his son to handle his own legal issues.
Reporters tried to ask President Biden about his son’s latest charges as he departed the White House on Friday afternoon for a weekend trip to Camp David, but he did not respond to their questions.
He waved to the press pool and boarded Marine One with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, and their two dogs, Champ and Major.
The president is expected to spend the weekend at the presidential retreat, where he will hold meetings with his national security team and prepare for his upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 16.
