Governor of New Hampshire and vocal Trump critic Chris Sununu (R) seemingly demands a Republican in the White House that he claimed he’s willing to vote for the former president over Joe Biden, even though he has called Trump “f***ing crazy,” and a “three-time loser” via Mediaite.
In a recent podcast interview, Puck’s Tara Palmeri asked Sununu, “If it comes down to Trump or Biden, which it most likely will, you’re going to vote for Trump then?”
Sununu replied simply, “I’m a Republican.”
He then left the door open for an alternative to Trump, claiming, “it’s not an absolute” that the former president will be the Republican nominee.
“If you get to Super Tuesday and Trump runs the table, it’s over,” Sununu conceded. “But if you get to Super Tuesday and [Nikki] Haley or an alternative candidate is winning three or four states, then the whole paradigm changes. Now it becomes a one-on-one race.”
He continued
Let’s say Ron DeSantis is the one, or Chris Christie is the one who [breaks] out by Super Tuesday. Trump can have his 40 percent. Someone else will have 60,” Sununu said. “Trump has a ceiling. He has a floor, but he also has a ceiling — one that is fairly low for a former president.
If it becomes a one-on-one race, now he’s in trouble.”
Sununu said that so far, no other candidate has “done a great job with a ground game here, knocking on doors, phones. That really does still work.” He added, “I think you could see a significant movement in numbers for anyone who drops that ground game here in the next six weeks.”
When asked whom he will endorse, Sununu said he’ll make his public declaration “in the next couple of weeks.”
