Former President Donald Trump’s social media posts on Monday, in which he raged against E. Jean Carroll, did not mention his 19th wedding anniversary with Melania Trump. Melania, the former first lady, has been out of the public eye, partly due to the recent death of her mother, Amalija Knavs, and Trump’s attendance at a private family funeral service.
Trump and Melania were married on January 22, 2005. However, Trump’s social media focus on Monday was directed toward E. Jean Carroll, a former Elle columnist, ahead of the supposed continuation of the second defamation trial related to Carroll. The trial was postponed due to Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, requesting an adjournment after her parents were exposed to COVID, and a juror tested positive for the virus.
Despite the anniversary, Trump did not publicly acknowledge it on social media. Instead, he reposted a Truth Social post by Melania expressing gratitude for condolences after her mother’s passing. The trial, which will determine the damages Trump owes in response to Carroll’s defamation claim, is expected to resume on Tuesday.
In the lead-up to the trial, Trump used Truth Social to post videos, interview quotes, and past statements made by Carroll. The former president has consistently denied sexually assaulting Carroll, who accused him of defamation following his denial and dismissal of her claims. Carroll is seeking $10 million in damages in this lawsuit.
Despite warnings from Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, about potential antics from Trump, he is expected to testify at the trial this week. The ongoing legal battle highlights the contentious relationship between Trump and Carroll, stemming from her accusations of sexual assault in the 1990s.
