He insists that he was not confused, as many have suggested, but that he did so “sarcastically.” The issue of cognitive acuity has become a political concern for both Biden and Trump, who are potential front runners for the 2024 general election.
Trump has previously mentioned Obama as his political rival instead of Biden, leading to speculation about his cognitive state. However, in a statement on Truth Social, Trump claimed that when he sarcastically inserted the name Obama for Biden, it was meant to indicate that others may have a significant influence on running the country. He accused political opponents, including Ron DeSantis, of using it to suggest cognitive impairment.
Trump stated that he knows both names very well, never mixes them up, and believes that they are destroying the country. He also mentioned taking a cognitive test as part of his physical exam and acing it, challenging Biden to take a similar test. Trump highlighted various policy disagreements with Biden and criticized what he referred to as “crazy things.”
In a radio interview with Brian Kilmeade, Trump appeared to make a similar gaffe, referring to Obama when discussing current events. When Kilmeade corrected him, Trump claimed he meant both Obama and Biden, asserting that Obama is Biden’s boss. During a recent rally, Trump also mentioned a world leader calling on Obama to resign and be replaced by Trump, despite Biden being the president.
