A Gallup poll has declared President Joe Biden’s approval ratings as the lowest among modern presidents seeking reelection at this stage of their term.
As reported by the Conservative Brief on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the dismal performance has reportedly left both President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expressing their frustrations to close associates.
According to anonymous sources cited by The Washington Post, Biden is particularly vexed that his economic message has failed to resonate, even as the economy shows signs of growth and declining unemployment.
The Gallup poll indicated that Independents’ opinions of Biden have been particularly volatile, with a seven-point increase in support this month following a record-low of 27% in November.
Among the seven presidents who reached this point in their first terms, Biden stands at a meager 39% approval rating.
This places him significantly below the ratings of other candidates, except for Donald Trump (45%) and Barack Obama (43%), who also faced challenging reelection scenarios.
While there has been a slight uptick in Americans’ confidence in the economy, with positive trends like falling gas prices, rising stock prices, low unemployment and moderate inflation, the overall Economic Confidence Index remains in negative territory.
Despite some improvement, 68% of Americans believe the economy is getting worse.
In terms of concerns, inflation and the economy top the list for the majority of respondents. Immigration and the government are also pressing issues for a significant portion of Americans.
Notably, 37% of Republicans consider immigration the most critical issue, setting the stage for a significant campaign focus in the 2024 election.
As Biden grapples with a range of challenges, including managing the economy, addressing international conflicts, and navigating the border crisis, the 2024 reelection campaign looms with a daunting backdrop.
The stark contrast in approval ratings between Biden and his predecessors at this stage adds an additional layer of complexity to his political landscape.
The Republican nominee in 2024 is expected to leverage issues like immigration, making it a key battleground in the upcoming election.
