According to The Indepndent, former President Donald Trump has attributed his loss in a civil sexual assault trial against E. Jean Carroll to what he claims was bad legal advice. Trump was ordered to pay $5 million to the former Elle relationship columnist after being found liable for sexually assaulting her in the mid-1990s and subsequently defaming her.
Trump did not attend the trial, and he now asserts that his attorneys advised him not to do so, stating, “I was asked by my lawyer not to attend—’It was beneath me, and they have no case.’ That was not good advice.”
Trump, who made these comments on Truth Social, also took the opportunity to criticize Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, who financially supported Carroll’s legal claim and recently donated $250,000 to Nikki Haley, Trump’s rival in the Republican presidential primary.
In a separate legal matter, Trump was back in court for the Trump Organization’s civil fraud trial, where defense testimony is nearing its conclusion. Trump is expected to testify on Monday, while still under a gag order. During a lighter moment, Trump engaged with courtroom sketch artists, expressing a desire to lose weight after inspecting their work.
These developments come amid ongoing legal challenges and controversies involving the former president.
