Renowned radio host Charlamagne Tha God assumed the hosting duties for “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central and seized the opportunity to implore President Joe Biden to step aside from the 2024 presidential race.
The South Carolina native, known for his candid critiques of political figures, asserted that Biden’s withdrawal would not only enhance the Democrats’ chances against former President Donald Trump but would also serve as “the ultimate Christmas gift” for America, as reported by Atalanta Black Star on Saturday December 9.
Charlamagne’s history with Biden dates back to the 2020 election when he grilled the then-candidate on his radio show, “The Breakfast Club,” over the infamous remark, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black.”
Despite the controversy, Biden emerged victorious in a contentious election, leading to the storming of the Capitol.
While hosting “The Daily Show,” Charlamagne didn’t shy away from expressing his continued dissatisfaction with President Biden. Mocking Biden’s approval ratings, he highlighted the president as the primary barrier against Trump’s apparent pursuit of a dictatorship.
The catalyst for Charlamagne’s latest plea was Biden’s admission at a closed-door fundraiser on December 5. Biden reportedly mused, “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running.”
This statement became the linchpin for Charlamagne’s argument that if Biden truly wished to prevent a Trump victory, he should step aside and allow other Democrats a chance.
Even Biden himself, when asked about alternative Democratic contenders, acknowledged the potential candidacy of “probably 50 of them.” Charlamagne seized on this, calling it “Biden’s ego talking” and urging him to step aside despite his apparent confidence.
Recent polling from The Wall Street Journal has added weight to Charlamagne’s argument, showing Trump with a 4-percentage-point lead in a hypothetical general election scenario.
The survey highlighted voters’ greater confidence in Trump’s ability to handle critical issues, such as the economy, inflation, crime, border security, and international conflicts.
Beyond political considerations, Charlamagne injected the issue of Biden’s age into the conversation. The president, who recently turned 81, faced ridicule for his age, with Charlamagne suggesting that Biden’s advancing years, coupled with concerns about his health, should prompt him to retire gracefully.
Charlamagne is not alone in his call for Biden to step aside. Democratic contenders like Rep. Dean Phillips, 54, and Marianne Williamson, 70, have also urged the president to make way for a new generation of leadership.
Notably, Cenk Uygur, the host of “The Young Turks,” initially declared his candidacy but faces ineligibility due to being born outside the United States.
As the Democratic field takes shape for the 2024 election, the pressure on Biden to reconsider his candidacy intensifies, with Charlamagne Tha God emerging as a vocal advocate for change within the party.
The question remains whether Biden will heed this call for the sake of party unity and the perceived greater good of preventing a Trump return to the White House.
